Welcome to my website. I do a lot of different things, but they all come from the same place – the desire to create, collaborate, communicate and question.
As an artist, I make work that doesn’t fit neatly into any category. I create and perform solo shows, staged song cycles, plays with songs, and I write opera libretti. All my work is made in collaboration with composers, MDs or directors. Most of it explores forgotten or marginalised voices. I’ve recently made work for Oper Leipzig, Brighton Festival, Buxton Opera Festival, Jermyn Street Theatre, Royal and Derngate Theatre, Lichfield Festival and O. Festival Rotterdam.
As an educator, I believe in changing the way classical artists are trained, so that it not only reflects the current professional music world, but that it also challenges and changes it. After several years leading Artist Development at the Royal Academy of Music, I’m now doing this work from outside higher education. That’s where the creative consultancy comes in.
I’m combining all the above in my capacity as co-founder and co-artistic director of a new, ACE-funded music festival, QueerScore, which has its inaugural run this April, and which will showcase both young and more established artists making work in the margins.
